All right-- for those poor saps playing spellcasters next year, here's the run-down of what you need to know.

Dear spellcasters-- don't worry too much about understanding these rules. Your GMs will always be on-hand to advise while you are spellcasting.

For those coming to the LARP, I'm writing up the most basic primer of 'what you need to know to LARP the Dresden Files.' We'll be doing a tutorial at the Con, but I'd really rather that those of you with your characters already be able to read them. If you don't have a sheet to look at yet, you can follow along by using Harry Dresden's character sheet, from Evil Hat publishing.

That said.

The Crunchy Skill Bits.Collapse )

Aspects and Fate Points.Collapse )

Taking Damage.Collapse )

Did my best to pare the rules down, but I would like to have some feedback on how palatable and understandable this tutorial is from people new to the system, so I know how to alter it for the Con.

Spellcasting is weird, and requires a different tutorial. Thankfully, most of you won't have to deal with that headache.

Sorry, Scott.

Yes, I'm doing a LARP next year. Yes, it's under the Dresden Files system. And yes, like a masochist, I've already finished like seven pre-made characters for it, even though it's not until next year.

...is gonna be so damn awesome.

The most I can tell any of you is this: Silent Hill meets Call of Cthulhu. Add World of Darkness and stir heartily. Also, my STs rock. Pretty much everyone involved in the game has added at least one interesting element to the plot-mix, so if you have fun this year, you get to thank everyone.

There will be serious cross-genre plot. Like, for realz.

In other semi-related news, may be looking for an Assistant Head ST. I do have a lot of stuff that needs delegating, and it's been a-ok'd as a position. Requirements include internet access, decent knowledge of Vampire, Mage, Werewolf, and Changeling (or the genuine willingness to become familiar with them before GenCon), and the ability to Get Shit Done in an on-time kind of manner. Also, considering the way I generally run around breathless during a LARP, the ability to handle me spazzing and notice when I haven't eaten. The ability to improv kick-ass scenes is a bonus.

Well hasn't it just been forever? Know why? Grad school. Yeah.

So like. I'm going there. It needs to be done. Male readers who still have squeamish tendencies left over from middle school health class may avert their eyes if they feel the need, but you should know that by doing so, you are missing out on learning about one of the most stupid, freakish, puzzling things about nature ever.

No, No, I Just Got it Wrong Last Month... THIS TIME You Will Feel the Need to Procreate!Collapse )

In conclusion, I would like to note that men should not feel quite so superior about their naturally greater strength and ease of muscle-building. You've got a leg up in that YOUR BODY ISN'T TOTALLY COUNTERPRODUCTIVE TO EVERYTHING EXCEPT BABIES.

...besides, I think my body is pretty bad at the baby thing so far too. It STILL hasn't figured out why horrible, incapacitating cramps fail to inspire maternal feelings in me.
